Our surprise for today is an exclusive interview with Yuki Hayashi – once Toei Animation’s ace, and now a highly regarded freelance animator. He talked about his lengthy experience at the studio, what pushed him to pursue animation, his working relationship with the one and only Rie Matsumoto, future plans, and a whole lot more!
Welcome back to the most special post of the year! As is tradition, we’ve gathered writers from different communities but a shared trait: a love of animation and all it encompasses. The goal, to praise at length the greatest productions and most resonant direction in all of 2018 anime, according to a series of categories. These are our yearly anime awards – the sakugabowl!
We’re back to highlight another rising anime star, perhaps one of the most exciting ones we’ve tackled. There’s no ceiling for Koudai Watanabe’s potential!

Let’s observe not only his extraordinary skill, but also the unique animation culture he inherited.

The series continues with a relatively calmer second episode, giving the viewers time to breath and see the origins of Hellsalem’s Lot. What approach did the director choose to depict flashbacks and how did the staff deal with new opening and ending sequences?
My Hero Academia’s animation producer Yoshihiro Oyabu mentioned on twitter that episode 30 was the result an all-out lineup of creators, commanded by Yoshihiko Umakoshi…who’s celebrating his birthday! Let’s see if the episode delivered on all that promise.
If you have been following Tiger Mask W and its latest episode made your jaw drop, this will be very relevant to your interests. Don’t worry if you’re not, though – the post will simply highlight a fascinating creative duo that we might as well call Neo Kyousougiga. Got your attention already? Let’s go!
